    Description

Paolo Mascagni. Anatomia Universale... Florence: Vittorio Batelli and Sons, 1833. Condensed edition, after Mascagni's masterwork (originally published from 1823-1832). Large folio (17.875 x 12.25 inches; 455 x 313 mm.). 292, [4, index] pages; 150 plates, comprised of seventy-five subjects or compositions illustrated in two states, first in outline, labeled, the other hand-colored; tissue guards. Contemporary half vellum over marbled boards, elaborate spine gilt, two morocco labels, in red and green, lettered in gilt. Binding lightly worn; joints just starting; spine faintly dulled; spine label edges chipped. Front endpapers and first several leaves soiled; faint tidemark to upper margin throughout text; plate facing page 36 with a short marginal tear (not affecting image); light marginal foxing throughout, particularly to tissue guards; previous owner's signature. A bright, near fine copy of a beautiful book.

Prospectus, Grande Anatomia del Corpo Umano... Pisa: F. Didot for Nicolo Capurro, 1822, bound in at front; uncommon, not listed in Norman Library, Osler, Wellcome; three copies in WorldCat and four in KVK at the Bibliothèque nationale. Very good with faint dampstaining and foxing.
