Rivière (1589-1655) professor of medicine at Montpellier. "Rivière introduced Paracelsian iatrochemistry into the curriculum of the University of Montpellier, and added Potio Riveri to the pharmacopeia. It was under his auspices that Alexander Fraser introduced the Hareian theory of the circulation of the blood...Rivière is best remembered for having been the first to describe stenosis of the aortic valve." [Norman]

"By the 1650's Riverius was well aware of the changes in philosophy and medicine in other parts of Europe, but for him skepticism and its implications counted for nothing. He asserted that medicine was indeed a scientia, capable of demonstration... Unlike the arts, medicine was learned and was to be acquired by much reading and the institutio of the doctors.." This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
