    More Information:

Liebault (circa 1535-1596) physician, agronomist & popular writer, was married to the daughter of the printer Charles Estienne and co-wrote with him the popular L'Agriculture et Maison Rustique.

He was also the first to grow tobacco in France and named the plant 'nicotiana' after Jean Nicot.

This work is a French translation of his Latin work De sanitate, foecunditate et morbis mulierum first published in Paris on the same year. A later edition appears as Les maladies des femmes & remedes d'ycelles (Paris, 1609) and on the title page of that edition the work is attributed to Giovanni Marinelli, who wrote a similar work entitled Le medicine partenenti alle infermita delle donne (Venice, 1563).

Marinello, physician of Modena and Venice, who wrote several books on women's health is considered the founder of modern cosmetology.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
