More Information: Mercuriale (1530-1606), eminent physician of Fori, was best known in his day for his writings on classical literature and monuments as well as his commentary on Hippocrates and other medical matters.  He was professor of medicine at Padua and later Bologna, and was well rewarded for his successful healing of the emperor Maximillian II at Vienna.  Despite his learning, however, he exhibited a preference for hypothetical reasoning at the expense of sound observation.  The present offering was eventually published in four volumes, first published in 1587, 1590, and 1597; the volumes included here are the first two only.    EDIT 16 CNCE 53401 (two copies only). Durling/NLM 3109.  Not in Wellcome.
