    Description

[Medicine]. William Beaumont. "Further Experiments on the Case of Alexis San Martin, who was Wounded in the Stomach by a load of duck shot..." From The Medical Recorder, volume IX. Philadelphia: 1826. First edition. Bound with volume X (1826) of the same journal. Octavo. 456; [1]-443, [1, blank] pages. With fold-out engraved frontispiece map, two engraved plates (one of which is hand-colored) in volume X. Bound in contemporary full tree calf, spine ruled in gilt with red and green gilt morocco lettering labels. Spine is soiled and a bit sunned, some wear, scuffing to binding, some soiling, toning to endleaves, text toned with occasional dampstaining, thumbsoiling, or minor creases or chips. Very good. St. Martin was wounded in 1822, but he survived with an open wound into his stomach. Observations and experiments on him by Beaumont led to better understanding of the process of digestion.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
