Octavo. [x], 400, [6, blank] pages. Publisher's full red cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt. Rebacked, preserving most of the original spine. Gilt on spine faded. Binding toned, thumbsoiled and edgeworn. Corners have had some repair or restoration. Hinges repaired. Front free endpaper and last rear blank re-inserted. Half-title, title-page and first Contents leaf restored at top. Endleaves and text toned. Front free endpaper creased. Text with occasional soiling, creasing, foxing, pencil notes. Front endleaves have ownership inscriptions by various owners. Laid-in is a 3 x 5-inch index card with a typed aphorism on both sides. With a facsimile dust jacket. Still, a good copy of the famous "Big Red Book."
