First Edition of Twain with Rare Salesmans Dummy

Mark Twain. Two Early States of Life on the Mississippi, including: Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1883. First edition, first state, with tail-piece depicting an urn, flames, and head of Mark Twain, page 441; and caption reading "ST. LOUIS HOTEL," page 443. Octavo. 624 pages. With over 300 illustrations in text. Publisher's brown cloth with vignettes stamped in gilt on front and spine, gilt titles on spine and additional floral decoration in black on front board. An exceptional copy with bright boards, scant rubbing at the corners, light wear to spine ends and a minimal area of fraying at the foot of the spine. Internally sound with a contemporary name in ink on the front free endpaper. Fine. [and:] Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1883. Salesman's Dummy, also called a prospectus copy. Octavo. Unpaginated. Identical binding as first edition, but fewer leaves and with a blank backstrip. Samples of 4 different binding options mounted to pastedowns. Rubbed with some fraying to extremities. Very good. Both volumes housed in a custom book-backed clamshell box.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
