Mark Twain: An Excellent Example of the True First Edition of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. (London: Chatto and Windus, 1876), First edition, 341 pp, calf covers with tooled gilt spine, boards with a single blind inside double gilt rules with corner floral devices, board edges tooled in gilt, turn ins tooled in blind, 8vo (5.75" x 7.5"), marbleized endpapers and edges. The first copies of this beloved 19th century classic came roaring off British presses some months before the more familiar first American edition. The English version, though devoid of any illustrations whatsoever, is nonetheless the true first printing of the novel. Full calf binding rebacked to style, with a morocco lettering label, previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown endpaper, a few light exterior scuffs and a bit of discoloration, small unobtrusive stain to the fore-edge margin of the title page. Otherwise binding is tight and interior is quite clean. A very good specimen with no major detractions.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
