First Edition, First Issue of Twain's Connecticut Yankee in the Scarce Publisher's Sheep Binding

Mark Twain. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. New York: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1889. First edition, first issue (with the "s" ornament in the caption of the plate on page 59). Octavo. xv, 575, [1, blank], [2, ads] pages. Intertextual drawings and full-page drawings within the pagination. Bound in the publisher's full sheep binding spine ruled in gilt, with red and dark blue gilt morocco lettering labels, text with marbled edges, marbled endleaves. Joints just barely cracking at upper or lower edges (yet still solid), some mild wear and soiling to binding. Despite these flaws, this copy is in exceptional condition for this rare binding. BAL 3429.
