[vi], 1037, [5, blank] pages. Publisher's gray cloth, front board and spine stamped in dark blue; in original first-state dust jacket. Backstrip a bit toned; some edgewear to spine and corners; front endleaves offset; bookplate of Eugene A. Clauss on front pastedown; mild toning to text; occasional rubbing or scuffing to edge of text block; small (approximately one half-inch by three-quarter inches) interior hole on leaf with pages 71-72, from removal of tape with some slight discoloration. Dust jacket spine a bit sunned; some moderate rubbing and edgewear to jacket; a few short tears; some thumbsoiling to jacket panels and flaps. Still, a near fine copy. A best-selling novel and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937; the basis of one of the most successful Hollywood films ever made. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
