First edition, first printing with "Published May, 1936" on copyright page and no note of other printings. Octavo. 1037 pages.
Original gray cloth with side title and spine stamped in navy ink. In first issue dust jacket with Gone with the Wind listed in the second column of "Macmillan Spring Novels" list on back panel. Endpapers with a few instances of subtle discoloration, probably from a laid-in document, now removed. Shallow bump to top and bottom corners of front board, and a minor wrinkle to head of spine. A few instances of very minor shelf wear to spine extremities. The jacket is moderately soiled, with front flap clipped at top and rear flap, with bookseller's ticket affixed to top edge. Jacket edges chipped and folds rubbed; edges with short closed tears but also bits of loss, especially to head of spine panel and along fold between front panel and front flap, but most significantly to foot of spine panel. Old tape along foot of spine panel and continuing to rear panel, with evidence of older tape extending from rear panel onto the foot of the rear flap. Overall, a tight and square copy in very good condition.
