Engraved allegorical frontispiece, engraved coins, text diagrams, charts, decorated initials. Contemporary mottled calf, spine banded and extra-gilt, title gilt on red morocco label, edge wear, spine a little defective at head, edges speckled, lacks front free endpaper; marbled paper paste-downs, minor foxing, first few leaves dampstained at head, small holes in a 2-4 (not affecting text), clean tear in margin of 2T4; light pencil marks in some margins.     Guigues was a Jesuit traditionalist is his views, commenting (page 150) "I believe that [concerning the idea that suns illuminate other worlds], it would be necessary to have the mind of Giordano Bruno, who was burned by the judgement of the Holy Inquisition for having maintained such an impertinence." (translation by Ken Croswell, Planet Quest). This is a rare book on geo-centrism.

We can find little about the author but Guigues was apparently a Jesuit priest of the diocese of Vence and Secretary to the prelate Francois-Etienne Caulet. Bishop of Pamiers. He is also the author of several small works including: Delphinatus, et Calabria ulterior sanctificata; Deiparae patrocinium, de spe scilice; De perfidia quorundam amicorum nostri temporis; In die, qua eminentissimus, reverendissimus que princeps D. Petrus cardinalis Ottoboni ;De novo Florentinorum bello contra Senenses: epigramma; A son altesse serenme. Monseigneur le cardinal de Medicis: sonnet; & Carneades redivivus in persona excellentissimi domini D. Joannis Francisci Pacheco... epigramma.
