    Three Engraved Scenes of the Mahratta War 1817-19. From Maps and Plans Illustrating the Memoir of the Operations of the British Army in India, During the Mahratta War of 1817, 1818, & 1819 by Lieut.-Colonel Valentine Blacker, London: Printed for Black, Kingsbury, Parbury, and Allen, 1821.

    This lot features two double-page engraved diagrams of the plan of assault on the fort at Talneir and the plan of battle of Mehidpoor. Each measures 11 x 14 inches. The plates were engraved by Sidney Hall, Bury Street, Bloomsbury. The paper has toned slightly, especially about the edges, the edges are slightly chipped, with a central horizontal fold crease, else all examples are in very good condition. Additionally the fold-out engraving used as the frontispiece of the book is also included. It measures 16 x 11 inches and features views from the north and east of Afseergbur. W. Daniell is the engraver. The paper is slightly toned with some minor chipping along the right edge and corner, and there is a small red ink mark from the New York Mercantile library, else it is in very good condition. As a bonus, the original title page and list of illustrations is sold with this lot. These examples would make lovely additions to a home study or classroom. Precious little has been written of the Mahratta campaign.
