    Sebastian Münster. Tabula novarum insularum, quas Diversis respectibus Occidentales & Indianas uocant. Basel: 1550. Original map from Münster's Cosmographia. Two pages (12.375 x 16 inches; 314 x 407 mm.). Uncolored; roman letter text on the recto of the first leaf. Light wear along the center fold; margins tanned, faint mat burn in the left margins; trace soiling; tape (presumably from mounting) on the upper corners of the verso. Very good.

    More Information: First published in Münster's Geographia in 1540. The first map to name the Pacific Ocean. Depicts Marco Polo's Zipangri (Japan) and the mythical island Calensuan; also features cannibals in South America.
