    Robert Wilkinson. Wilkinson's Atlas Classica Being A Collection of Maps of the Countries Mentioned By the Ancient Authors, Both Sacred And Profane. With their various Subdivisions at different Periods. London: Hamilton, Adams and Co., 1827. Krown & Spellman retail: $750. Folio. (1), (2), (53). Half calf over marbled boards, rubbed, gilted spine. Front board corner hinge started, with dampstain to calf. Title page has spotting and dampstain to inner margin corner, chipped at inner margin. Some pencil notations to outer margins. Overall, maps are in great shape. Bookplate "Charles Steward, Esq. Blundeston." Engraved title page, 46 maps (7 double page), 7 charts, all hand colored. Scarce copy. With historical maps on "Sacra", "Ecclesiastica", "Antiqua" and "Historica". Maps are dated from 1798 to 1823. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

    More Information:

    Third series of Wilkinson's Atlas of Maps. We believe this to be a first edition of this particular book, finding only a "second edition" located in our research, printed in 1830.

     

    Provenance:

    Charles Steward, Esq. (1798-1872) was a distinguished officer in the Hon. East India Company Naval Service, resided at Blundeston house for many years, was an active magistrate for Suffolk.
