L'Abbé du Fresnoy. Geographica Antiqua et Nova: or a System of Antient and Modern Geography, with a Sett of Maps Engraved from Cellarius. Designed for the Use of Schools, and of Gentlemen, who make the Antient Writers their Delight or Study. London: John and Paul Knapton, 1742. First edition of this English translation. Approximately 10 x 8 inches. Quarto. [xii], 157, [1, blank], [37, Index], [1, publisher's catalogue]. With all 33 fold-out maps inserted throughout. Bound in later niger morocco, front cover paneled in blind, spine ruled and lettered in gilt. Front hinge cracked, some wear to binding, title-page mounted on tissue to repair some holes, final leaf similarly mounted with tissue (publisher's catalogue text is a bit light due to being covered with tissue). Some soiling in text, generally maps are quite clean. Overall, a good copy.
