[London]: Are to be sold in pops-head Alle by Geor[ge] Humble, 1626 [1627]. Highly decorated, hand-colored double-hemisphere world map. Single sheet, two pages (16.5 x 21.625 inches; 419 x 549 mm.). Remargined; middle fold restored. Faint general age toning. Text in English on verso, removed from Speed's world atlas, A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World, first published in 1627. Very good. Represents California as an island; maps a speculative "Southerne Unknowne Land." Includes copious short notes on European exploration. Depicts the celestial hemispheres, figures representing the four elements, celestial phenomena such as lunar and solar eclipses, and portraits of four early explorers who circumnavigated the globe: Magellan, Drake, Cavendish, and van Noort. First state, with the imprint of George Humble at foot. One of the earliest English-language maps. "[The Prospect's] circulation was not... international in the same sense as the multilingual atlases of Mercator -- Hondius, Jansson or Blaeu and copies of the Prospect are relatively infrequently found outside the U. K."--Shirley, The Mapping of the World, 317 (describing fourth state).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
