Hand-colored geological map of the eastern United States. Single sheet (13.625 x 17.625 inches; 348 x 448 mm.). Colored. Left margin trimmed, now rather narrow, with upper left corner clipped; tiny chip out of upper right corner. Several vertical and horizontal creases where once folded; some weakening and short tears at ends of folds. Regular age toning. Very good. First geological map of the United States published in America. Accompanied Maclure's memoir in Transactions of the American Philosophical Society, Vol. 1, New Series. Depicts Alabama and Missouri Territories and outlines Indiana, pushing the Illinois Territory to the west. Locates several Native American settlements and territories.
