Illustrated with ninety hand-colored plates and charts, most spanning two pages. Volume one (title page 1845): 1. Meteorlogie and Klimatographic [Meteorology and Climatography], 2. Hydrologic and Hydrographic [Hydrology and Hydrography], 3. Geologic [Geology], 4. Tellurischer Magnetism [Telluric Magnetism], 5. [Botanische Geographic] Botanic Geography; Volume two (title page 1848): 6. Zoologische Geographie [Zoologic Geography], 7. Anthropographie [Anthropology], 8. Ethnographie [Ethnography]. Volume one in publisher's dark green cloth, decorated in gilt and blind; Volume two in publisher's cloth (color uncertain), decorated in gilt and blind. Corners bumped and rubbed, moderate edgewear, boards rubbed, Volume one spine sunned with minor soiling to back board, Volume two heavily sunned overall with minor soiling to front board. Endpapers with residue from cello tape, pages unevenly toned throughout, foxing chiefly contained to margins and edges, edges darkened. This atlas is considered a staple of German hand-atlas history, the first attempt to visualize 19th century geography through the use of thematic maps (Wolter and Grim, p. 228).
