[Texas Annexation]. William H. Emory. Map of Texas and the Countries Adjacent: Compiled in the Bureau of the Corps of Topographical Engineers, from the Best Authorities. For the State Department. Under the Direction of J.J. Abert. Chief of the Corps. Published by the War Department By Order of the Senate. 1844. 33.25" x 21.75" (neatline to neatline), [Washington], engraved by William H. Stone. Texas is outlined in faint sepia red, with a listing of statistics and populations at lower left. Framed to the overall size of 38.25" x 27.25".

This map was made for use by the United States Senate during negotiations for the annexation of Texas and is the first U.S. Government map showing Texas as a contained unit. The Republic of Texas is drawn with the boundary claims of the Texas Congress of 1836, and includes portions of present day New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma and Wyoming. The Rio Grande runs along the Southern and Western boundaries. An important map, showing U.S. intentions to include all of the Republics land claims against Mexico. A smaller format of this map recently sold at Sotheby's for $6,250.

Condition: Vertical and horizontal flattened folds, light toning and spotting.
