[Map]. Houston, Texas, Produced by the Federal Land and Investment Co. 18.25" x 26". Circa 1910. At top, beneath the company name: 309 Scanlan Bldg., Houston. Map shows detailed land ownership throughout the area and with 22 lots numbered and colored by hand to correspond to the description and price for each lot for sale as listed on an accompanying 2 page legal size typed copy of an offer to an Ohio resident. Each lot is described in detail. Map with original folds is very good and shows "Scale 8000 vs. or about 4 miles to the inch." The use of vara as a measurement unit suggests the map likely was produced in Texas. The 2-page list of properties is attached to a blue sheet and was previously folded.

Creases from horizontal and vertical folds, light toning at edges, a pencil sketch is present on verso. The typed document has usual folds, minor creasing, and light soiling from rust from top staples.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
