    Halsall's 1857 Map of Kansas

    [John Halsall]. Sectional Map of the Territory of Kansas. Compiled from the Field Notes in the Surveyor General's Office. St. Louis, MO: John Halsall, 1857. Lithographed map, hand-colored in yellow, green, pink and blue. Approximately 22 x 28 inches. Folded in publisher's original blind-stamped brown cloth (4.5 x 6 inches) with titles in gilt on the front board and in blind on the back board. Front pastedown with publisher J.H. Colton & Co. advertisements. Map with light edge and fold wear, few small fold separations, some creasing, very minor foxing. Bleedthrough stain and creasing in left margin from glue attaching map to covers. Binding rubbed (some loss to gilt) and lightly soiled, loss to lower part of spine with partial glue repair; hinges cracked, cellophane tape along hinges and inside of spine. Pastedowns lightly scuffed and soiled. Overall a very good map.
