[Joan Blaeu. Atlas Maior]. America. Quae est Geographiae Blavinae Pars Quinta, Liber Unus, Volumen Undecimum. [Amsterdam]: Labore & Sumptibus Ioannis Blaeu, [1662]. First edition. Large folio in twos (21.875 x 12.875 inches; 556 x 327 mm.). [2], 1, [2], 2-19, [2], 20-21, [2], 22-35, [2], 36-39, [2], 40-41, [2], 42-45, [2], 46-73, [2], 74-89, [2], 90-101, [2], 102-103, [2], 104-105, [2], 106-133, [2], 134-183, [2], 184-191, [2], 192-201, [2], 202-213, [2], 214-241, [2], 242-243, [2], 244-245, [2], 246-247, [2], 248-259, [2], 260-277, [2], 278-287, [3] pages (pp. 198-9 misnumbered "298-9," pagination skips directly from p. 248 to p. 251, pp. 253-4 repeated twice). Twenty-three two-page hand-colored engraved maps of the Americas (one inserted, others unpaginated but contiguous with text). Title vignette, initials, tail-pieces. Contemporary vellum-covered boards; spine decorated and lettered in gilt; boards stamped with gilt paneled floral design; with green silk ribbon closures. All edges trimmed and gilt. All gatherings guarded. Some edge wear to binding, particularly at head and foot of spine; rubbing, with some subtle loss to gilt; corners bumped; normal soiling to vellum; surface scratches to boards; ribbons frayed, mostly gone. Some wear, scuffing to edges of text block. Scattered toning, foxing to interior of text block; occasional marginal splash, damp and thumbsoiling. Very good. The eleventh volume of Blaeu's Atlas Maior, one of the largest and most expensive Dutch atlases of its kind, in its original Latin edition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
