Great content letter regarding the political situation of the times, particularly the state of Whig affairs. In small part: "there is much discord among the Whigs in Congress than you would suppose - the great difficulty consists in settling the line of conduct & policy to be pursued towards the Presdt. & his administration - most of the Eastern Whigs think we should pursue the path of conciliation & of moderation & get for the country all the good we can out of the Presdt & his Cabinet. But many of our Western & Southern friends are for war."
