Description
Pablo Picasso. Autograph Letter Signed."Picasso." Two pages in French, 8.25" x 9.75", Juan les Pins [France]; September 12, 1924. In this warm and affectionate letter to the French businessperson and art collector André Level (1863-1947), Picasso thanks Level for helping with his (Picasso's) apartment issues. Since Picasso's handwriting is sometimes illegible, his letter is paraphrased [in English] below.
"You are so kind to think of my apartment issues. I had not dared trouble you about them. But here you are, wishing to help me. My landlord's address is this: Monsieur A. Bailliat, 56 Rue de la Victoire, Paris. I would like to know what can be done so that I may keep this flat until January 1926. I am currently working in my garage which I have turned into a studio. It is sunny and we go swimming. What have you done this summer? I hope your family is well. Thanks a million again, I await the reply to this letter to do what must be done to keep my flat....The three of us send our very best your way from Juan les Pins, Villa La Vigie."
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. Considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.
Condition: Letter has the usual folds, with slight separation at the left hand edge of horizontal fold and paper loss at top edge that does not affect text of letter; otherwise good.
