    Madison Smartt Bell (American novelist, b. 1957). Large Archive of Typescript Material, With Some Signed Items. [Various places, dates]. Archive includes: forty-seven typed (on computer) drafts (most signed by Bell) of articles and reviews, and four ring-bound notebooks full of typed letters and more typed articles (all apparently on computer), many of which are signed by Bell. Condition is generally very good or better. An excellent archive of material.

    More Information:

    Bell is primarily known for his trilogy about Toussaint Louverture and the Haitian Revolution; one of the titles from that series, All Souls' Rising, was a finalist for the 1995 National Book Award; it won the Anisfield-Wolf Award for the best book of the year dealing with race in 1996. He won a Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
