    James Doyle [British Artist and Author, 1822-1892]. Two Autograph Letters, Signed. [London]: February 18 and July 22, 1843. Letters with original ink drawings. February 18th letter is three quarto pages on one folded folio sheet (each page approximately 10 x 8 inches); July 22nd letter is three quarto page on one folded quarto sheet. Seven small circular illustrations on the February letter, one small and two larger drawings (including one of the Royal Family) on the July letter. Letters toned, creased, edgeworn, with a few short tears. Still, good letters with lovely and detailed artwork. From the collection of Zita Books.

    James Doyle was the son of Irish cartoonist John Doyle, and was brother to artists Richard and Charles Doyle. Although James was a successful artist, he spent most of his life producing, "The Official Baronage of England." He was also the uncle of author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
