    J. K. Huysmans. Autograph Manuscript Signed. "J. K. Huysmans." Manuscript copy of "Chronique d'Art. Le tableau de Bianchi au Louvre." Four pages, 8.75" x 11.25", n.p.; n.d. Huysmans describes the art works of the Italian Renaissance painter Francesco Bianchi (1447-8-1510) at the Louvre, and comments on them. In particular, he bemoans the dearth of information and interest in the man, and writes that [English translation] "all are in agreement he was Correggio's master... while all the art historians heap praises on Raphael's mediocrities, none even seems to suspect Bianchi's original personality. Where did he come from? What was his life?....There is but one painting of his at the Louvre and, to me, it has delicious and captivating emanations, insidious sacrilege and troubled prayers." He ends his reflection with this: "The painting yanks you from the present and suggests troubled reveries." The manuscript includes occasional pencil markings in red or green pencil along with the author's ink corrections
Joris-Karl Huysmans (1848-1907) was a French novelist and art critic. He supported himself by a 30-year career in the French civil service.
Condition: Each leaf is affixed on the verso of the left margin to a blank page of a larger album. Manuscript leaves a bit toned and thumb soiled, a few smudges, with horizontal creases at center; otherwise good to very good. Housed in full green cloth binding with brown gilt morocco lettering label on front (some wear to album).
