    H. G. Wells Writes an Endorsement
    for T. P.'s Weekly

    H. G. Wells Autograph Post-Card Signed. One page, 6.25 x 4.75 inches, London, November 14, 1902 [from ink postmark on recto]. Written on the blank verso of a "Letter Card" to T. P. O'Connor, Esq., M. P., T. P.'s Weekly postage-paid postcard. Wells writes: "T. P's W is certainly the most interesting penny weekly I have ever read [this portion of the endorsement appeared in the December 13, 1902 issue of The Spectator]... Mrs. Popham's Economics are particularly delightful... H. G. Wells." Some foxing, rubbing. Very good.
Begun in November of 1902, T. P.'s Weekly was a publishing venture by T. P. O'Connor with the aim "to bring to many thousands a love of letters." To this end, he secured the works of many distinguished authors of the day, including George Bernard Shaw, Arnold Bennett, G. K. Chesterton, and, of course, H. G. Wells. From the Larry McMurtry Collection of H. G. Wells.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
