Single leaf (8 1/4 x 4 inches; 209 x 101 mm), recto only, on stationery of Fundación del nuevo cine latinoamericana; with autograph envelope signed ("de Gabo").

AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED BY GABRIEL GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ AND WITH A SIGNED ENVELOPE.

"Genio: La bella mujer que lleva esta tarjeta se llama María Luisa Elí­o, y me cueste trabajo olvidarla porque a ella esta dedicaba Cien Años de Soledad. Pero ese es el menor de sus méritos, como tu mismo vas a descubrirlo. En tus manos la dejo, con el abrazo de siempre." ("Genius: The beautiful woman bringing you this card is María Luisa Elí­o, and I would have to work hard to forget her, since she is the one to whom I dedicated One Hundred Years of Solitude. But that is the least of her qualities, as you will now find out for yourself. I leave her in your hands, with an embrace as always.")

Gades (1936-2004), the world-famous flamenco dancer and choreographer, was a close friend of García Márquez . He was also a founder and director of the Spanish National Ballet.

Condition: A minor wrinkle or two, minor wear to envelope; else, fine.

Provenance: Originally in the collection of the family of the dedicatees of Cien años de soledad.
