    More Information:

Herd was a Lieutenant in the U.S.N. who lived in Pasadena and attended school at Cornell. It seems he was an active amateur tennis player.

According to the colophon this work was "written, illustrated, and bound" by Clifton B. Herd "T.P.I?" in 1907. A previous owner found in 1974 the author living in California. He estimated the author as being in his early teens (14-16) at the time it was written. The ballads are based on pseudo-medieval tales of chivalry: "Chevy Chase; " :Sir Patrick Spens;" "The Monk of St. Mary's Aisle;" "The Fall of the Beattisons;" and :Sir Gareth and his Adventures." It is a charming manuscript and well executed.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
