    A. A. Milne. Autograph letter signed to E. H. Shepard. London, no date [but likely 1926]. Single sheet, text to recto and verso, on Milne's letterhead with a Chelsea, London address. Letter in near fine condition with a few wrinkles and creases not affecting text. Milne's signature is clean and clear. Near fine overall.

A fascinating letter in which Milne discusses the drawings for Winnie-the-Pooh with the book's illustrator and makes plans for another collaboration with Shepard on a book based on Mother Goose, which was never to come to fruition. The close nature of the relationship between the two men as collaborators and friends is more than evident. Milne offers Shepard, "I suggest that we share 50/50 over this book." Milne even invites the illustrator to his home in the country writing, "We go to Crotchford today till May 3rd. Do come over - with family or without some time... and anyhow we should be delighted to see you." From the Pat McInally Collection of Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin
