    Description

Luigi Mayer. Views in the Ottoman Dominions, in Europe and Asia. And Some of the Mediterranean Islands. From the Original Drawings Taken for Sir Robert Ainslie. London: Printed by T. Bensley for R. Bowyer, 1810. First collected edition. Large folio (18.0625 x 12.375 inches; 459 x 316 mm.). [4], 32, [approximately 142 unnumbered] pages. Seventy-one hand-colored aquatint plates, one folding. Contemporary full black morocco; boards stamped with gilt border and gilt vignette, with gilt fillet decoration and gilt-stamped interior dentelle; spine decorated in gilt with six raised bands. Later endpapers. All edges trimmed and gilt. Edge wear, particularly to ends of backstrip; cracking at hinges; some scuff marks, surface scratches to boards; areas of brown soiling to front, partially obscuring some gilt decoration; pale soiling to rear, including two dots of what appear to be yellow paint. Some slight loss of gilt from edges of text block. Inner hinges repaired. Regular age toning of leaves; spots of marginal foxing sprinkled throughout; faint offsetting opposite plates. Some rumpling to edges of free panel of folding plate; tear starting at inner end of crease, repaired with tape. A few areas of heavy brown spotting to text and plates throughout. With armorial bookplate of Arthur John Thornhill, Esq. tipped to front pastedown. Very good. From the Illustrated Book Collection of David Salinas.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
