Louis Prang. Group of Twelve Chromolithographs from Prang's War Pictures. Boston: L. Prang & Company, 1886-1888. Chromolithographic prints, possibly a first edition variation with the image and text on a single print (alternatively images tipped onto captioned card mounts). Prints approximately 23.375 x 17 inches (595 x 430 mm.). Twelve prints after watercolors by Thure de Thulstrup (land battles) and Julian O. Davidson (naval battles). Loose prints with the front board and backstrip (separated, both quite worn) from the publisher's portfolio, half-goatskin over dark red cloth lettered and stamped in gilt. Print margin colors vary, partially from variations in printed color but also from slight toning; some versos slightly browned; some marginal wear with a few short closed tears and softened corners. Generally near fine.

More Information: Distinct from the American Lithographic Co. reprint but potentially a different near-contemporary re-issue.
