An Excellent Catalogue of Louis Orr's Etchings, One of 500 Copies Signed by Him and Additionally Inscribed by Him

    Louis Orr. Original Etchings (Artist's Proofs) by Louis Orr. [Paris: Printed under the supervision of A. Vernant Chief of the Chalcographic Dept (Technical Services) of the Louvre and E. Dolle, 1918. First edition, one of 500 numbered copies. This copy is number 37, and it is signed and numbered by Orr in pencil on the limitation page. Also, inscribed by Orr on the first page: "To Josiah Marvel/with best wishes from/the artist/Louis Orr/Paris November/twenty eighth,/1919". Small folio. Approximately 7.75 x 5.75 inches. [46] pages. In original plain perfect-bound wrappers, with title printed on front cover. Wrappers toned (especially at spine), some wear to spine and corners, some rubbing, soiling, and a few short tears to wrappers, hinges starting, binding a bit loose in places. Still, a near fine copy of a beautiful and fragile item.

    More Information:

    Louis Orr (1879-1961) was an American-born artist and etcher who lived much of his professional life in Paris, where he was known for exquisite architectural subjects and attention to detail. However, he is most famous for his monumental series of etchings of homes and plantations in North Carolina. The recipient of this lovely book, Josiah Marvel, was the president of the Delaware Charter Guarantee & Trust Company.
