Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to poet Frank Demster Sherman, on the front free endpaper: "Frank Demster Sherman/from/Lizette Woodworth Reese/May, 1892./"Good fortune come to you!" Beneath this inscription and on the first blank are small pen and ink original drawings affixed to those pages (artist unknown). Octavo. 100 pages. Publisher's parchment over decorative cloth boards, boards and spine stamped in gilt. Some toning, rubbing to binding (especially at spine,) text a bit toned. Very good. In later cloth jacket and quarter morocco slipcase.
    [Together with:] Kate Douglas Wiggin. New Chronicles of Rebecca. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin, 1907. First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Wiggin on the first blank: "To Gibson Bradbury:/From his old friend/+ summer neighbor./The author/Kate Douglas Wiggin./Publication Day/April 17th 1907". Laid-in is an autograph note signed by Wiggin (signed with her married surname, Riggs) on plain white paper (folded): "117 W. 69th St./Monday May 12/Dear Mr. Schuler,/I did not mean that the A.E.A./should [?] authors, I meant/that the Author's League should/stand by their authors..." Sincerely Y/Kate-Douglas Riggs". There is a brief inscription by Wiggin at the top of page 233: "This was rendered into the immortal/tongue by Gibson Bradbury!/KDW". The author's full color bookplate affixed on the front free endpaper, and a later portrait of the author with one of her children is affixed to the front pastedown. Octavo. [278] pages. With eight illustrations inserted throughout. Bound in modern full green levant morocco, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, and tooled and ruled in black, modern marbled endleaves. Light rubbing to binding, some occasional thumbsoiling in text. Near fine.
