    Description

William Makepeace Thackeray. The History of Pendennis. His Fortunes and Misfortunes, His Friends and His Greatest Enemy. London: Bradbury and Evans, 1849-1850. One work in two octavo volumes. Illustrations on steel and wood by the author. Bound by Lloyd in half green morocco over marbled paper covered boards, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, gilt rules on covers, five raised spine bands with gilt titles and decorations in compartments. Binder's ink stamp on verso of both front free endpapers. Bindings rubbed and scuffed, corners bumped. Small bookseller's annotations on versos of both front free endpapers. Some old binding stab holes near gutter. Occasional light scattered foxing and thumbsoiling; heavier foxing on plates (several darkened around the artwork's borders), including additional engraved title pages and frontispieces. Image off-set from plates and illustrations. Very good.
