    William Dean Howells and John J. Piatt. Poems of Two Friends. Columbus: Follett, Foster and Company, 1860. First edition of both authors' first book. Small octavo. 132 pages. Publisher's full brown pebbled cloth, front board stamped in gilt, rear board stamped in blind. Cream front endleaves, yellow rear endleaves. This copy apparently has the front endleaves both affixed to the front pastedown, with the front flyleaf acting as the front free endpaper. Mild rubbing to binding, some foxing or offsetting to endleaves, text foxed. Rear free endpaper creased. Still, a bright, fine copy of this rare item - the first published book by both Howells and Piatt. From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.
