Vaniere (1664-1739) was a Jesuit and late Latin poet who became professor and rector of the schools belonging the the Jesuits in Montpellier, Toulouse, and Auch. The present work, regarding a country farm, is considered to be his best Latin poem, and some believed it raised him to the level of the best late Latin poets. Vaniere died at Toulouse while endeavoring to finish a Latin and French dictionary. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.
