    John Dryden in Uniform Bindings

    Three Books by John Dryden, including: Sr. Martin Mar-all, or, the Feign'd Innocence, A Comedy. London H. Herringman, 1678. [and:] Of Dramatick Poesie, an Essay. London: Henry Herringman, 1684. [and:] Mac Flecknoe; or, a satyr upon the True-Blew-Protestant Poet, T.S.. [London: Jacob Tonson, 1692.] Dryden's name appears as "John Dreyden" in Of Dramatick Poesie, whereas in the other two works he remains unnamed.
    Quartos. [4], 59, [1] pages. [8], 51 pages. 84 pages. Both Sr. Martin Mar-all, or, the Feign'd Innocence, A Comedy and Of Dramatick Poesie, an Essay are second editions. Mac Flecknoe, lacks title page, issued together in continuous pagination with Absalom and Achitophel (Seventh edition) and The Medal a Satyre Against Sedition (Third edition), each of which have separate title pages. Uniformly bound in later half leather and marbled boards, blind rules to covers, two raised spine bands with gilt rules, gilt title and author, and gilt date and place of publication at the foot, marbled endpapers. Rubbing to boards, corners bumped and rubbed, spine rubbed, small scratches, and spots of minor surface leather loss. Each volume has some foxing, browning, lightly cockled pages, and stains; although Mac Flecknoe is a brighter copy. Sr. Martin Mar-all has partially erased holograph pencil name on title page near small printer's device, head- and tail-piece decorations on Prologue page, small tear in D2, minor ink marks on pages 26, 42 and 43, small holograph pen annotation on the upper border of page 45, small corner chip in H3. Of Dramatick Poesie has a decorated head-piece and two large decorated initials. Its pages are more browned that the others. Mac Flecknoe has a small pencil number "584" in the lower border of the first page and a minor tear near the lower corner of D3, not affecting text.
