A Laodicean; or, the Castle of the de Stancys. London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1881. First edition, first state of title-pages. Three octavo volumes. 312; 275; 269 pages. With half-titles. Both titles uniformly bound by Root and Son in contemporary half green levant morocco over marbled boards, spines decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, four raised bands, marbled endleaves, top edges gilt. Some wear to bindings, spines uniformly sunned to brown, several headcaps chipped, joints professionally strengthened, spine of volume II of Laodicean rebacked, preserving the original spine, some foxing in text. Overall, a very good collection.
