4to (275 x 214 mm). 21 pp. Engraved vignette on title. Disbound, uncut; quarter morocco slipcase.

FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK FROM STRAWBERRY HILL PRESS. Printing began under Horace Walpole's direction in July of 1757. Gray was skeptical of entrusting the work to his friend, but yielded to his entreaty and later reported that the copies he saw were "very pleasant to the eye, and will do no dishonour to your Press."

Condition: Some splitting along spine folds from previous binding, with trace of remnants from original binding. Some light toning and spotting.
