A complete set, including: Sartor Resartus: The Life and Opinions of Herr Teufelsdrockh, The French Revolution: A History (Vols. I - III), Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeships and Travels (Vols. Uniformly bound in full leather with gilt titles and decoration on covers and spines. Raised bands on spines. Top edges of all volumes gilt. Tails and fore-edges untrimmed. Light rubbing and soiling on covers and spines, some with gilt affected and slightly scuffed; also, sunning on spines. Light browning and soiling along edges. Marbled endpapers have some offsetting from leather bindings. Frontis portraits in 28 volumes, of which 24 are not accompanied by tissue guards, thus causing offsetting onto title pages. Scattered foxing around top edges and gutters of pages. Textblocks are slightly over-opened in some places. Else, a near fine set. From the Pre-Raphaelite Collection of William E. Fredeman.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
