    More Information: Samuel Rogers (1763- 1855), poet; entered bank in which his father was partner, in Cornhill, London; began contributing to 'Gentleman's Magazine,' 1781; first published this book in 1792, which achieved popularity; printed privately, 1808, and published, 1810, a fragmentary epic on 'Columbus,' and other poems in following years, including 'Human Life,' (1819) and 'Jaqueline,' which was printed in the same volume with Byron's 'Lara' (1814); was offered but declined laureatship, 1850.
