First Edition, First Issue of Jekyll and Hyde

Robert Louis Stevenson. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. London: Longmans, Green, and Company, 1886. First edition, first issue with the date change on the wrapper as called for (the book was originally to be released in December of 1885 and the wrappers had already been printed when the publisher, not wanting it to be lost among the bookstalls filled with Christmas offerings, postponed the release to January, 1886 thus the date on the wrappers was changed by hand in ink on this scarce first issue). Octavo. [8], 141, publisher's advertisements pages. Publisher's original wrappers printed in blue and red and bound into modern half leather over marbled boards, top edge gilt. Minor, uniform toning to pages, else a near fine copy.
