    Robert Louis Stevenson. Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Authorized Edition. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1886. First American edition. Small octavo. [2, blank], [8], 138, [2, blank], [4, ads] pages. Original olive-green cloth lettered in gilt on upper cover and spine. Top edge gilt. Minor rubbing to binding, spine a bit toned, very minor bumping to corners of front board, final two gutters (facing the ads) a bit overopened. Still, a fine copy of this rare book.

    More Information:

    This American edition preceded the English edition by four days, but used the Longmans sheets. Scribner's issued 3,000 copies in wrappers, but only 1,250 in cloth on publication day, January 5, 1886.
