Engraved extra-t.p. with a multitude of amorous excesses being studied by the author under the light of a heavenly host. Petronius (d. A. D. 65) "according to Tacitus was at one time consul and governor of Bithynia, and subsequently was admitted by Nero to the inner circle of his initiates and chosen by him as his arbiter of taste...Petronius is probably the author of the satirical picaresque Latin novel known as the 'Satyricon,' a compartively small portion of which survives. Like the Menippean Satires it is in prose intersperced with verse, and describes the disreputable adventures of two rogues Encolpius and Ascyltus, and their serving-boy Giton, as they wander about the semi-Greek cities of southern Italy... There are passages of gross indecency, but the spirit of the whole is the hunorous satire of writers such as Rabelais." From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
