Oscar Wilde. The Picture of Dorian Gray. London: Ward, Locke and Co., July 1890. First appearance of the complete novel, issued in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine, English issue with London publication information more pronounced. Octavo. 4 [inserted ads], 162, [16, inserted publisher's catalog] pages. Publisher's perfect binding, original buff printed wrappers; text block edges trimmed. Extensive repairs made to wrappers; rebacked, with remains of original backstrip laid down; wrappers remargined; brown color added to disguise exterior of repairs; wrappers darkened and creased, with a bit of soiling. Text block dulled, especially along edges; mild, marginal foxing scattered throughout interior; slip inserted following title-leaf offsetting onto facing pages; four-page soap ad at rear foxed, with final leaf reinforced with clear tape after being affixed to and then torn away from rear wrapper. Good. Housed in custom slipcase.
