Small octavo (7.56 x 5.5; 192 x 140 mm). 341 pp. Custom binding by J.B. Hawes Cambridge; full calf, ruled in gilt and blind, decorated gilt-stamped spine with 5 raised bands and red morocco label, gilt-stamped edges. Corners bumped; minor edgewear; some soiling and wear to boards. Marbled endpapers; turn-ins tooled in blind, bookplate of Harry Walter Cholmley to front pastedown, bookseller's ticket to front pastedown, front hinge just starting. Internally clean and tight, edges marbled; minor intermittent soiling, edges slightly faded but clean and straight. Children's drawing laid in p. 340-341, causing minor offsetting. Text varies slightly from American edition (Hartford, 1876). BAL 3367.
