Mark Twain. Sketches New and Old. Hartford: 1875. First edition.

    More Information:

Mark Twain. Sketches New and Old. Hartford: American Publishing Company, 1875. First edition, BAL's first state. Octavo. 320, [6, blank] pages. Publisher's full blue cloth, front board and spine decoratively stamped in black and gilt, rear board decoratively stamped in black. Cloth spine a bit dull; spine edges and corners somewhat edgeworn; some rubbing, light soiling to boards; front hinge starting; rear hinge cracked; endleaves toned; light toning, occasional soiling in text. Binding a bit skewed. This copy has a portion of the publisher's slip on page 299, denying Twain's authorship of "Hospital Days," but the printed portion of the slip has been torn out, leaving just a stub; there is offsetting for the entire slip on pages 298 and 299. Overall, a very good copy. BAL 3364.
